Cut  -  (i) the reduction in the size of the field during a multiple round stroke play tournament. The cut is usually set so that a fixed number of players, plus anyone tied for that place, or anyone within a certain number of strokes of the lead will participate in the subsequent round(s). Tournaments may have more than one cut. (ii) a shot similar to a fade, a cut curves from left to right (for a right-handed player), but is generally higher in trajectory.
